We used participants’ smartphones to detect how much time they spent in conversation, how much they walked around, and how much they were sleeping, in addition to asking them how stressed they felt each day. We found that across a two-month period, greater stress on a given day predicted less social interaction the next day, even when accounting for overall movement and sleep.
