Are other-regarding preferences stable across development?
In this study, we correlated other-regarding preferences in an interpersonal bargaining game with changes in cortical maturation in 9 to 23 year olds. We found that younger children tended to value equal splits in bargaining decisions, but older adolescents tended to consider their partners intentions, which was associated with cortical thinning in a region of the brain involved in social cognition.
