How do doctors' beliefs influence patients' treatment outcomes?
Across three studies, we systematically manipulated providers’ expectations in a simulated clinical interaction involving administration of thermal pain and found that patients’ subjective experiences of pain were directly modulated by providers’ expectations of treatment success.
